My story.
The TRAGER® Approach has been my primary professional community since 1985. Through the training processes to become a Practitioner, Tutor and Instructor, I have experienced loving support of many others to help me come home to myself, and to PAUSE to be more present to each moment.
I have trained in many modalities, but TRAGER has won my heart because it is based on the principle that change occurs in an environment of safety, acceptance and gentleness. I am awed by the power of touch, movement and presence to invite us to experience ease, flexibility and mindfulness as a way of life!
It was chronic back pain that awakened me to the power of body awareness. At age 35, I woke up unable to move after a series of stressful events . At the time, I had no idea my pain was linked to these stressors. My body was trying to tell me something, but I didn’t know how to listen.
My search for relief led me on a new pathway. Burned out as a trainer and director in urban early childhood programs, I returned to graduate school, while I studied massage therapy for fun! As I explored touch therapies, acupuncture and other complementary medicine practices, I gradually learned to tune into my pain patterns and benefit from new approaches to my self-care. I even changed my career to somatic education.
Unconsciously, my behavior and body patterns were shaped by early experiences.I became aware that my thoughts and expectations created tension patterns I was unaware of until I developed chronic health issues. Learning to listen to my body and take responsibility for my self-care has given me the skills to manage my stress and interrupt patterns of tension before they become debilitating pain.
That is why I am passionate about helping others to unlock this same ability within themselves.
